My name is Griffin and welcome to my wine blog! The primary motivation for making this blog is a course I am studying at Virginia Tech called Geography of Wine. My experience with wine is relatively limited up to this point. I've had dozens of wines over the past few years, but I have not focused sniffing and tasting the wines in depth to pick up aromas and flavors. My goal is to better my understanding of the complexity of wine and have a clearer idea of what I like in them.
With that being said, I do have some idea of what I like in wines depending on the occasion. I tend to like dryer wines, especially dry white wines while I eat food. This is relatively vague as food is very diverse but that is why I hope to learn more throughout the creation of this blog. If I am drinking wine on its own (without food) I often like sweeter ones, but I don't have an explanation as to why. Once I taste more wines and pair some of them with food, I should be able to explain why prefer it, or even change my mind.
There is other alcohol I enjoy drinking, for example beer, which is my favorite type. I know that almost all alcohol has complexities associated with it and you can get aromas and flavors by tasting them and appreciating their qualities. However, similar to wine I have not spent the necessary time doing this. I'm hoping the skills I learn from these blogs and the course will help me with all other types of alcohol I drink in the future.
